The best Serbian long jumper Ivana Spanovic carries on victorious!
At the European Indoor Championships in Prague, the magical Ivana Spanovic won the gold medal with her long jump in the third series and thus, accomplished the task she set for these championships.
In the first series, Ivana jumped 6.80m – quite enough for the second place; in the second series she transgressed.
The third series started and Ivana was ready to give her best – she jumped 6.98m and won gold. This was a new national record long jump, itt won her the gold medal and the first place on the score board.
The contest was not over yet! Her jump in the fourth series was 6.89m, the jump in the fifth series was 6.71m and in the last series she jumped 6.81m.
“I am delighted with the medal and the new national record jump. I have hoped that these championships would be the place where I would surpass the seven meter magical barrier, however, it was not to be, but I am, nevertheless satisfied. This is not the end of my endeavours; this is just another step in my career. I will continue to push the limits,” said Spanovic.
Marguenara Sosthene Taroum from Germany won the silver medal with the result of 6.83m, while the bronze medal went to Marincu Flarentini from Romania, who jumped 6.79m.
At the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Prague, Serbia was represented by six athletes who returned home with one gold medal and a new national record in the long jump and one silver medal in the shot-put. There is no doubt that Serbian athletes have a dominant position in European and world athletics.
It is anyone’s guess what we could expect at 2017 EC in Belgrade!
